The Sleep Project: Waking Up

A lot of how you and I feel during the day depends on how well we sleep. Our health, and happiness are determined directly by how long and how well we sleep. If there is one aspect of my life that perhaps needs the most hacking, and is easiest to hack, it might be my sleep schedule.

Without taking anything else into account, let’s talk about duration.

Most adults need 7 – 9 hours of shut-eye a day. I usually get either too much, or too little. This lack of routine makes getting out of bed seem like napalm to the brain.

So, it’s time to set a routine

I usually sleep *whenever*. lets call it midnight

I usually get up 6:45 on a weekday and 11:45 on a weekend.

Talk about sleeping in…

So everyday I’ll sleep at midnight or earlier if I need, and set my alarm for 11:59 am. and then everyday, ill set the alarm earlier by 1 minute, save for weekends.

This should allow for easier adjustment of my sleep schedule and a slow but steady routine.
